Things to do in Calgary this Weekend with Kids | January 24-26

It’s the perfect weekend to get outside with kids. There are dozens of community winter festivals to explore and enjoy, to get to know your neighbours and even celebrate Lunar New Year.

Here’s what to do in Calgary this weekend, with the kids:


Chinese New Year Celebration

Come celebrate Chinese New Year with us at Marlborough Mall on Saturday, January 25! There will be performances, Kids Crafts, and more. Find us by the Family Park and Food Court from 1pm – 4pm.

Winter Carnival in Inglewood 

A long-time Inglewood tradition. Newfoundland Dog Rides, Hay Rides, Petting Zoo, Outdoor Skating, Firepit, Crafts, Bingo, Hot Chocolate & Concession.

The Science of Snow

Join BRIANA VAN DEN BUSSCHE, from the University of Calgary Barrier Field Station, while we explore WINTER ECOLOGY and THE SCIENCE OF SNOW! Discover how animals adapt to the cold, try out the equipment firsthand and borrow snowshoes and explore. Dress warmly and prepare to be outside.

Loose Parts Outdoor Play Date

Come and play with us in Echo Park (MacEwan Ridge Cl NW)! FREE for everyone. Join us for Loose Parts and Pop-up Adventure Play. Come prepared to be outside, enjoy some mess, and rediscover your playful spirit as a family with the Vivo Play Ambassadors.

Nerf Wars at TRICO Centre

Join us for some drop-in Nerf Wars fun! Loaner Nerf guns and eye protection available, or bring your own N’strike compatible Nerf gun. All darts are provided by Trico Centre. Any children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Games run from 6:30pm-7:15pm and 730pm -815pm


Sunday Funday at Devonian Gardens

Finding activities for the kids during winter can be difficult. Grab the family and visit us on Sunday afternoons at Devonian Gardens for some great, free activities: – get inspired by the fish and paint your best coy – learn about nature, flowers, bird species and gardens – complete a puzzle or do some colouring

Winterfest at Bonavista

Our 3rd annual Winter Festival is coming!! Come out Sunday January 26th from noon-3pm to enjoy horse drawn wagon rides, skating and hockey, curling, food and hot chocolate, a campfire and toboggan races for the much coveted Toboggan Champion trophy! Event is free so come out and have fun with your neighbor.

Winter Pop-up Picnic and Games

Pack your cozy blankets, scarves & mittens. Wrap your hot sandwiches in foil and fill your thermoses with warm stew. Snow games and hot chocolate will be provided for all families to enjoy. In case of inclement weather, please call 3-1-1 to confirm that the event is taking place.
